Cost effective physical measurements

As outlined by the federal UNCOVER initiative, the decline in exploration success is in large due to the difficulty of exploring beneath post-mineralisation sedimentary basins and weathering profiles that cover approximately three-quarters of the Australian continent. The characterisation of the cover and the petrophysical response of known mineral systems via petrophysical analysis is an important part of unlocking Australia’s mineral potential.

The more physical properties measurements can be made the more use can be made of the data. Sophisticated measurements are not necessary, but an accurate and effective suite of density, porosity, magnetic susceptibility/ remanence, galvanic/inductive resistivity, induced polarisation and acoustic P-wave velocity measurements can provide sufficient information to assist in mineral exploration targeting.

Magnetic Susceptibility is the intrinsic property that determines the amount of magnetism a rock can have in a given magnetic field.

Velocity

Tera Petrophysics can offer portable P wave velocity on any petrophysical sample submitted for analysis. S wave velocity will be introduced in the coming months.

Sample Selection & Preparation

Samples for physical property measurements should be carefully selected for quantity and typical characteristics for meaningful results.

Resistivity & Chargeability

The apparent resistivity and chargeability determinations performed in the physical property laboratory are measured in the time domain.
